Major Guide

Programs require both opera arias and German Lieder together. Pronunciation assessment by language in the preliminary video round is a real cause for elimination.

Common to piano, strings, and winds: programs must span Baroque, Classical, and modern/contemporary works. Video editing is grounds for disqualification.

A portfolio combining PDF scores and audio is essentially the entire first-round review. At least one piece must have a live (not synthesized) recording.

One of the smallest cohorts in Germany. Score reading at the piano is effectively a hard requirement.

Requires both standards and an original composition; a band-format improvisation round is the core of the final audition.

Many programs lead to the Staatsexamen (Germany's state teaching exam), so the language requirement is the highest among music majors — some schools require German C1 for teacher-track applicants.
